Amy Scoggins of Shelby, office manager for Cornerstone Dental Associates, was recently awarded the 2016 Patterson Diamond Scholar award. The award was presented during the American Association of Dental Office Management's (AADOM) 12th Annual Dental Management Conference in Boca Raton, Florida.
Each year one office manager is selected by Patterson Dental - a company that provides products, services and solutions for oral health professionals - as a Diamond Scholar. The scholarship includes complimentary conference registration and hotel stay, and up to $600 in travel/air expenses.
"When awarding the Patterson Diamond award, we look for those office managers who go above and beyond," said Joseph Dowdy, senior customer acquisition specialist with Patterson Dental. "When we talked to Amy we could immediately feel her passion for her patients and her team."
Scoggins was nominated for the award by Dr. Sara Karner, DDS. In her nomination of Scoggins, Dr. Karner said, "Amy is a huge support to the doctors here at Cornerstone Dental Associates. She has a great rapport with staff members and is the first person everyone goes to with questions .... We joke that we don't know what we would do without her."
Scoggins has been a member of the Cornerstone Dental team for 19 years, eight of which have been spent as office manager. Winning the Diamond Scholar award was "very unexpected," Scoggins said, and it was her first time at the AADOM conference.
"I just have a passion for it (dental office management)," Scoggins shared. "Our team is a second family."
When asked what she might share with other dental office managers, Scoggins said that others should encourage their physicians to stay up to date with technology and techniques.
"You're the voice of the team to your doctors," Scoggins said.
