Anne Bowen Goss

Anne Bowen Goss, 66, of Shelby, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Atrium Health Pineville. Born in Shelby on May 30, 1954, she was the daughter of Mrs. Catherine Bowen, and the late Mr. Harvey Bowen. A graduate of Shelby High School, Anne received her Bachelor of Arts from Meredith College and a Master of Arts from UNC-Greensboro. A life-long educator, Anne was a retired chorus teacher from Burns Middle and Burns High Schools. She also enjoyed singing with the Frank Love Orchestra and with Joe Webb's Jazz Era Review for many years. In retirement, she served as the Director of Music for Aldersgate United Methodist Church and "Mimi" to her grandchildren.

Anne had many gifts including her beautiful soprano voice. Other than Jesus and her family, Anne was devoted to her music. A loving and compassionate woman, she lived life with a song in her head and a prayer in her heart. Her music was the impetus that brought out the absolute best in everyone. She impacted countless students inside and outside of the classroom over the course a 34-year career. As a mentor and life coach, she supported her students from the classroom to the sports field, encouraged their endeavors, and always let them know they were loved and were a part of her family. Her family continues to be comforted by community members, former students, and friends who have shared how her life impacted their own.

She loved being by the water, whether it was a family vacation to the beach, or a trip with her family to Lake Wylie. She loved to feel the sand beneath her feet from the eroding tide or the gentle breeze while riding on her pontoon. She was a great woman of faith, who was securely and wholeheartedly resolved in the Lord's promise with strength of faith matched only by His sincerity. When community members reminisce, her family knows she will be described as a loving and compassionate woman who is a glowing ember that will forever burn within the depths of everyone's hearts.

Anne is preceded in death by her father, Harvey Bowen Sr.

Anne is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mike Goss, her daughter Elizabeth of Charlotte, NC; her son, Troy and wife Jana; her three grandchildren, Troy Jr., Tyson, and Tinley Goss of Quantico, VA, and her amazing mother, Catherine Proctor Bowen of Shelby NC.

She is also survived by her brother Harvey (Butch) Bowen, Jr. and wife Kathy, her dear aunt Shirley Bowen Wright, and husband Buddy, and her uncle Elbert (Buddy) Bowen, her brothers-in-law John Goss Jr., Robert (Bob) Goss and wife Tina, sister-in-law, Susan Carringi, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is forever grateful for the exceptional care provided by the medical professionals from both Atrium Health Cleveland and the medical intensive care unit at Atrium Health Pineville.

Due to COVID-19, the family has chosen to have a private service. The private service will be available online through Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory website at a later date. They hope to be able to have a public celebration of life ceremony at a safer date and time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC 28152, in memory of Anne Goss for a memorial fund for future ministries.

Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
