Anne Lange Shaw (80) passed away peacefully on February 4, 2023, at the Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, North Carolina, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Shaw was born on October 8, 1942, in Sandusky, Ohio, and raised on Kelleys Island, Ohio, by her parents Orville Henry Lange and Lauretta Kathleen Bell Lange.

Before her 2004 retirement from Crest High School in Shelby, N.C., she spent 41 years teaching special needs children. Mrs. Shaw taught in 12 schools from elementary through high school in Erie County, Ohio; Ft. Wayne Ind.; Montgomery County, Md.; Oshkosh, Wis.; St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Cleveland County, N.C.

Mrs. Shaw was a graduate of Sandusky High School and Kent State University in Ohio. She was listed in Who's Who of American Teachers and was a past member of the Association for Retarded People, Council for Exceptional Children, Learning Disabilities Council and Dyslexia Association. She was a member of Welcome Wagon Club of Cleveland County and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and volunteering at the Life Enrichment Center in Shelby, N.C.

Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William L. Shaw; three brothers John R. Lange, I. Thomas Lange, and O. Hugh Lange; sisters-in-law, Jean, Jane, M. Catherine and Janet; and nephew Barry W. Lange.

She is survived by her daughter Sarah Kathleen Shaw of Shelby, N.C.; stepchildren William L. Shaw (Linda) of Ft. Wayne, Ind. and Nina S. Vernasco (John) of Libertyville, Ill.; grandchildren Seth T. and Marie E. Shaw and Lucy, John and Mia Vernasco; great grandchildren Nevaeh, Tyler and Isabella; sister-in-law Beverly Kaczmarek of Tenn.; nieces Jackie Lange Darling (Dennis) and Christine Lange Fanning (Tim); nephews J. Bruce Lange (Laura), Thomas J. Lange (Susan) and David M. Lange (Anita) also survive.
