Annie Lucille "Lou" Robertson Reese

Annie Lucille "Lou" Robertson Reese, 84, completed her earthly journey on January 22, 2018.

Lou was born on September 3, 1933 in Halifax County, N.C., to parents George and Forrest Robertson. She was the eighth child out of ten: six boys and four girls. She was a graduate of Aurelian Springs High School and licensed as a Registered Nurse at Roanoke Rapids Hospital Nursing School.

During her nursing career, she worked at locations in Oklahoma and North Carolina, including Watts Hospital in Durham, N.C. and Rex Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. While in Raleigh, she met Richard Swift Reese in October 1954 and married three months later on January 27, 1955. The couple and their three daughters Darlene, Sherrie, and Ellen lived in Oklahoma, Alabama, Maine, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Richard and Lou settled in Boiling Springs, N.C. in 1989.

As a nurse and homemaker, Lou's giving nature meant she was always ready to help where needed, working and volunteering in all the communities that she lived. Most recently she served the Boiling Springs community as a member of the Extension and Community Association where she was given an award for the longest member. She was also a member of the Sorosis club.

She was led by her strong faith and was always an active member of her church communities. During all her years in Boiling Springs, her faith and her beloved church community at Boiling Springs Baptist Church nourished, sustained, and brought joy to her life. She taught and was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class for more than 20 years. She was also involved in WMU and enjoyed participating in Bible study. Lou also found joy in visiting those in the community who were homebound. She never met a stranger and had a heart of gold.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Richard S. Reese.

She is survived by daughters: Darlene Bailey of Shelby, N.C., Sherrie Reese of Pelham, A.L., and Ellen Branson of Charleston, S.C.; son-in-law Bob Branson of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren: Kate Bailey Runy and her husband, Mike of Cary, N.C., Scott Bailey and his wife Karen of Mountain View, C.A., and Ansley Branson of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters: Justine Piper of Raleigh, N.C. and Mary Jones of Lawrenceville, V.A.; sisters-in-law Patsy Robertson of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Justine Roberson of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Betty Shoun of Vilas, N.C., Gladys Shoun of Sylvania, O.H., Dorcus Hodges of Vilas, N.C., Maude Reese of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Barbara Reese of Ringgold, G.A.; brother-in-law Clint Reese of Raleigh, N.C.; and numerous nephews and nieces.
