Apostle Eugene "Gene" Brooks

Apostle Eugene "Gene" Brooks, 70, of 833 North Flint Street Lincolnton, NC passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby, NC.

He is the eldest of 11 children, born to the late Mr. John Brooks Jr. and the late Prophetess Rosa Lee Brooks. The surviving siblings are Joyce McSwain (Thomas), Teresa Dukes (the late Ronnie), Brenda Perkins (Jasper), Juanita Brice (Elder William), Janice Miller, John Brooks (Diana), Pearlie Wilson (Ryan), Thomas Brooks (Wendy), Angela Brooks, and Kevin Brooks (Shanna).

Apostle Brooks was joined in holy matrimony to Prophetess Shirley Sweezy Brooks on March 25, 1972. He is the proud parents of four children: the late Frederick Bernard Robbs, Melinda Kay Brooks, Brian Eugene Brooks, and Blair Quincy Brooks (Rozzie). He also has nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and godchildren.

Apostle Brooks is also survived by: a father-in-law, Mr. Austin Sweezy of Baltimore, MD; a brother-in-law, Deacon Howard Camp of Waco, NC; three sister-in-law's, Deloris Borders (Albert) of Shelby, NC, Mary Poston (Kenny Sr.) of Cherryville, NC, Yvonne Sweezy of Waco, NC; a special spiritual father, Apostle Aaron Raley of Charlotte, NC; two significant peers of the gospel, Bishop Thomas McClunney of Shelby, NC, and Pastor Charles Pratt of Gastonia, NC; and, countless sons and daughters in the ministry.

He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Velrry Montgomery (Pastor James) of Waco, NC, and a brother-in-law, Robert Sweezy of Waco, NC.

Apostle Brooks received the Gift of Salvation in 1975, at the age of 25. Redemption is the most significant event to take place in his life. He surrendered to the call of preaching the Gospel within two years of his conversion and received his ministry licenses, on July 8, 1977, all while serving at Jerusalem Christian Fellowship Church of God in Shelby, N.C. He was officially ordained as a Minister on August 30, 1981, by the late Bishop S.J. Boyd, the late Bishop E.P. Oats, and the late Bishop David Adams. In May 2000, Apostle Brooks was ordained as Bishop at Jerusalem Christian Fellowship Church of God, by Bishop David Adams. In addition, he was ordained an Apostle on June 12, 2009, by Apostles John Eckhart, Stephen Gainer, and Norris Johnson of the International Apostolic, Prophetic, and Worshiping Churches. If you spoke to Apostle Brooks concerning any of these credentials he would say: church folk has gone title crazy, God makes people what they are by His grace; and if someone doesn't want to recognize the graces of God in his life, they can just call him Gene.

Apostle Brooks' experience in pastoral leadership has been over forty years, which includes serving as Assistant Pastor at Jerusalem Christian Fellowship Church of God, Pastor of True Holiness Church in Gaffney S.C., Founder and Pastor of Deliverance Christian Center in Blacksburg S.C., Pastor of Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Lincolnton, N.C., and presently Founder and late great Pastor of New Providence Full Gospel Church in Crouse, N.C.

Funeral services for Apostle Brooks will be livestreamed starting at 1:45 PM on Sunday, May 23, 2021at New Providence Full Gospel Church in Crouse, NC. He can be viewed from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the church. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church on Sunday, May 23, 2021.
