Applications Being Taken For Disaster Assistance
Requests for Cleveland, Henderson, Rutherford, and Transylvania Counties in North Carolina have been approved to implement Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) and practices for the rain events of summer 2013, and notably a major flood event that occurred on July 27th 2013. These practices include:
EC-1 Removing Debris from Farmland
EC-2 Grading, Shaping, Re-leveling, or Similar Measures
EC-3 Restoring Permanent Fences
EC-4 Restoring Conservation Structures and Other Installations
Farmers suffering from damages may be eligible for assistance under this program, which is administered by the Cleveland County Farm Service Agency. The county has been approved for the program, but no money has yet been allocated. Applications will be taken, the disaster areas assessed and the applications will be reviewed when the allocation is received.
W. Bryon McMurry, County Executive Director, announced effective September 18, 2013, farmers in Cleveland County may sign up for ECP assistance for losses due to these rain events.  October 31st, 2013 is the deadline for filing an application. The local office is located at 844 Wallace Grove Drive Shelby, NC 28150 and has office hours of 8:00 – 4:30.   McMurry said that any farmer who suffered damages should contact his office as soon as possible for additional information and to determine if they qualify.
