Augustus Erwin Gregory Jr. of Shelby, NC passed away on September 24, 2022, at his home. Born August 19, 1927, he was the son of Augustus E. Gregory Sr. and Eva Wilson Gregory. Gus graduated from Shelby High School in 1944 and later went on to proudly serve in The North Carolina National Guard as an Administrative Assistant for 39 years. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal from the state of North Carolina for his faithful service. Gus was also a lifetime member of Central United Methodist Church of Shelby, NC where he served in many capacities of leadership and service to his community.

In addition to his parents, Gus is preceded in death by his brother, Gene Gregory.

Gus is survived by his loving wife, Elaine of 68 years, numerous nieces, nephews and a special great nice, Ashley Jones.

A funeral service to honor Gus will be held Wednesday, September 28 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. David Lee officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park in Shelby, NC.
