AWA Holds Annual Blessing Of The Animals
This group of pet lovers, were just a few that attended the second annual AWA’s blessing of the animals.
The second annual blessing of the animals was held Sunday, October 2nd, at the Shelby Court Square. Allison Still, Treasurer of the Association for the Welfare of Animals, began the services and explained that the luminaries surrounding the entire courthouse were “Precious Memories” in memory of, and in honor of animals that are or were an important part of people’s lives.  Reverend Jennifer Hege then took over the services, offering a blessing for every animal. A solitary lighted candle stood on a table in memory of Coco, an abused dog that had to be put down. Coco has become a symbol for animal lovers who fight abuse. The purpose of AWA is to raise awareness about animal abuse and neglect. It also encourages everyone to spade and neuter their pets.
