The American Heart Association (AHA) recognizes individuals in positions of leadership in their churches that promote a heart healthy lifestyle.  The following members of Cleveland County’s Minority Health Council received the American Heart Association’s Ambassador Award to recognize their diligent work to promote physical activity and nutrition in their churches:
Gold level awards: Sharon Camp, Lillian Corprew, Cathy Howell, Sarah Mask, Lendra Phillips, Jackie Woody and Robert Miller
Silver level awards: Brenda Camp, Dorothy Ann Mask, Carolyn Robbins and Frances Webber
Bronze level awards: Linda Bell, Susan Borders, Tammy Edwards, Gloria Biggs and Nicole Baxter
The American Heart Association also recognized two Cleveland County churches with the Gold level Fit Friendly Award for their work to promote a heart healthy lifestyle.  The two churches that received the award are Long Branch Baptist Church of Grover and Washington Missionary Baptist Church of Shelby.  To be a recipient of the Gold level Fit Friendly Award, these churches had to meet the following criteria:
• Offer members physical activity options at the church
• Increase healthy eating options at the church
• Promote a wellness culture in the church
• Implement at least six criteria outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture
The Cleveland County Health Department and the Alliance for Health of Cleveland County, Inc. would like to congratulate and thank these individuals and churches for working tirelessly to promote heart healthy lifestyles through physical activity and healthy eating!
