Bar-H Rodeo & Country Festival...
Shelby’s “Dixie Rebels” greeted rodeo goers with some down home bluegrass music.
Once again, Thurston Hamrick presented the Bar-H Championship Rodeo & Country Festival.
This year was extra special, as it marked the events quarter century of entertainment. Cowboys, cowgirls, bluegrass music, petting zoo, vendors and great food were part of the festival. The rodeo is held on the Hamrick family farm, as it has been since the beginning. With the former cowboy and rodeo clown at the mic, Thurston called out information and scoring for each event. The crowd roared with approval and cheered each winner. The two day event was filled with family fun and cowboy hats dominated the crowd. People came from several states to enjoy this great experience in Boiling Springs.
It is believed that rodeo was born in 1864 when two groups of cowboys from neighboring ranches met in Deer Trail, Colo., to settle an argument over who was the best at performing everyday ranching tasks.
That gathering is considered to be the first rodeo and it started the evolution of the true American sport.
Today, it is a sporting event that consists of events that involve horses and other livestock designed to test the skill and speed of the cowboy and cowgirl athletes who participate.
