Benjamin Morey Houser, 87, of Cherryville NC passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Wendover Hospice House. Born January 31, 1931 in Gaston County, he was youngest of 15 children, having 7 brothers and 7 sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madge Eudora Haynes Houser and daughters, Kathy Lynn Hargrove and Phyllis Gaye Miller.
Ben was a 1949 graduate and valedictorian of Tryon High School. He was an army veteran and served two years during the Korean War, stationed in England. He retired from the NC DOT after over 30 years. He was a hard-working man, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a life-long cattle farmer, active until the week before his death.
He is survived by his son, David Benjamin Houser, wife, Sheila Houser; grandson, Brent Houser; granddaughter, Leslie Crane, husband, Thomas Crane; great grandchildren, Judah, Sofia, and Sarah Crane; son-in-law, Tim Miller; granddaughters, Rachel and Dana Miller; son-in-law, Ronny Hargrove; grandson, Ronny Hargrove II, wife, Jennifer Hargrove and children, Hailey, Zoey, Miranda, and April Wade; and caregivers, Ann Rudisill and Lynn Jones.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services. Burial and graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Steve Wright officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Cherryville American Legion Post #100 Honor Guard.
