Bernard Francis Gehring, Jr., 71 years, of Cherryville, NC, died on Sunday, March 18, 2018 in his home. He was the husband of Kathleen (Kraus) Gehring. Born on November 24, 1946 in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Bernard Francis Gehring and Margaret (Lucassen) Gehring. Mr. Gehring was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years and was a member of the St. Mary's Help of Christians Catholic Church of Shelby and Christ The King Catholic Church of Kings Mountain. He attended school at St. Stephens High School and achieved his Bachelors of Business at Loyola College of Maryland. He spent most of his career as an elevator mechanic and retired from South Carolina State Inspectors Board. Berney was an avid reader, coin collector, and loved doing the crossword puzzles every week. He dedicated his time faithfully to the youth of the Church and the Knights of Columbus and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and remembered for his great sense of humor and dedication to his family.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Kathleen (Kraus) Gehring and his four children, Bernard Francis Gehring, III (Sara), Eric Michael Gehring (Christine), Adam Charles Gehring (Cayce) and Matthew Gordon Gehring (Izabella), one brother Gordon J. Gehring (Wendy) as well as six grandchildren, Lillian, Lucas, Chloe, Tyler, Lacey and Schylar.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00am Thursday March 22, 2018 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Kottar celebrant. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory from 4 pm until 7 pm with a Rosary to begin at 7 p.m.
