Betty Earl Cook, age 88 of Charlotte NC passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on May 14, 2025.

She was born on May 23, 1936 in Cleveland county to Julius and Nettie Bivens Earl. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, older brother J.C. Earl, eldest sister Judith Beatrice Earl Cook and younger brother William Dwight Earl. She is survived by son Garland Cook Jr and Deborah, grandson Justin Cook and Faith Beman. Surviving siblings include Ethel Cook, Lucille Garret, Harold Earl, Tryon Earl, Jerry Wayne Earl, and Larry Warren Earl.

Betty grew up on the family farm in Casar NC, tending to farm chores and helping raise her younger brothers. While attending Casar High School, she met her husband and moved to Columbia SC in 1953 to attend Draughans Business School. Later she moved to Charlotte NC and began working at Pennsylvania Life Insurance. After 25 years she started work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as a secretary to the Dean of Nursing and then in the Psychology Department where she and her staff supported teachers and mentored students. She retired in 1995 after a successful career.

Betty enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, traveling, reading, writing, aerobics, gardening, and singing in the choir. She took pride in the finer details of life and work, always prioritizing the needs of others around her first. Sunday dinners were her specialty where countless friends and family were blessed to be around Betty and her selfless ways. Betty is loved and will be dearly missed.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Noon, at Olive Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Terrill Crump officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
