Betty Jean Taylor Powell, age 81 of Shoal Rd. passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at her residence. She was born January 2, 1936 in Lincoln County to the late Alvin Marion and Minnie Alice Sigmon Taylor. Betty was a devout Christian and an expert homemaker. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Mrs. Powell enjoyed music and singing. She also loved flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Earl Powell; son, Larry Powell; brothers, Clarence, L.A., Frankie, Howell, and Howard Taylor.
Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Powell Parker of Joanna, SC, and Earlene Powell of Lincolnton; sons, Jimmy Powell (Mary) of Vale, Perry David Powell of Lincolnton, Jerry Powell (Leanne) of Lincolnton, Tony Powell (Deena) of Lincolnton, and Johnny Powell (Teresa) of Joanna, SC; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers, Ernie Taylor of Lincolnton, Fred Taylor of Crouse, and Clyde Taylor (Jane) of Morganton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Pastor Joe Midyette and Evangelist Johnny Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Betty requests that memorials be made to her dependent daughter, Earlene Powell, 1457 Shoal Rd. Lincolnton, NC 28092.
