Betty Lou Daves

Betty Lou Daves went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 16, 2026, at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, North Carolina. Born on December 23, 1952, in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, Betty lived a life of faith and deep devotion to her family.

Betty was a member at Boiling Springs Baptist Church and later in life joined Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She was a faithful employee at PPG Industries for many years. Betty found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed playing church softball and rocking babies in the nursery at church. She enjoyed doing puzzles, patiently fitting each piece together - a reflection of the care and thoughtfulness she brought to life. She also cherished spending time with many special friends, treasuring the moments of laughter and companionship they shared.

Betty was an extraordinary baker and maker of sweets. Her fudge was always perfect and when walking in the house on Thanksgiving or Christmas or to celebrate a birthday you could be sure that there would be treats sitting out that Betty had made. Every treat she shared was made with love, and every recipe carried her signature touch of care. For many of us, her desserts weren't just food; they were home.

Everyone should have a Betty. She always showed up, she always had your favorite snacks, and she made you feel like you were the most important person in the room. Betty's love knew no limits and her kindness touched everyone she met.

Betty had a special gift when it came to children. She adored them - not just her own family, but every child lucky enough to cross her path. She never had children of her own, but she somehow ended up with more kids loving her than most people do in a lifetime. Her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews added up and every single one of them felt like they were hers. She made each one feel seen, valued, and completely loved. Whether it was through a warm hug, a listening ear, or a perfectly timed word of encouragement, she had a way of making them feel safe and important. We celebrated her 73rd birthday in December and were reminded how rare it is for the
whole family to rally together like that, but Betty could always make that happen. She had that kind of gravity.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Mary Lou Daves. She is survived by her brothers, Jim Daves and wife Judy of Gaffney, SC and Bill Daves and wife Julie of Boiling Springs, NC and her sister and devoted caregiver of many years, Lisa Daves McFarland of Boiling Springs, NC. She was the proud Aunt Betty to her nieces and nephews, Melanie Williams (Brian), Ashley Goins (David), OJ McFarland (Lauren), Catie Stitzel (Austin), Adam McFarland (Kristy), Caleb McFarland (Haylee) and Laura Toms (Frank) and her great-nieces and great nephews Dylan Williams (Eve), Becca Champion, Marcus Williams, Maggie Champion, Grady Nodine, Caroline Williams, Kerry Williams, Will Stitzel, Liza Stitzel, Emery McFarland, Britney Williams, Charlotte Russ, Savannah Toms, Nora McFarland, Darcy McFarland, Aelin McFarland, Ruby McFarland and a great-great nephew, Eli Williams.

Above all, Betty's legacy is love. Love poured into her family, love mixed into her delicious goodies, and love wrapped into every gesture. Though we will miss her deeply, we carry her spirit with us - in our traditions, in our kitchens, and in the way we choose to love one another.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2026, in the Cecil M. Burton Chapel with Pastor Carroll Page officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Cecil M. Burton funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Cleveland Memorial Park.
