Betty Sue Carson Barnett

Betty Sue Carson Barnett was born on June 10, 1932, in Shelby, North Carolina. She was the youngest of 16 children (Annie, Mary Ruth, Pauline, Booker T, Landon, Paul, Otha, Isabel, Margaret, Florence, Juanita, Carrie, Lelah) born to Dock and Addie Carson.

She met Linton Carlos Barnett, Sr on her father's farm in the early 1950's and they fell in love and started a family right away. Together they had six children, Wanda (Santa Fe Springs, CA), Linton Jr., Gari (Los Angeles, CA), Billy, Debra Sue and Eugene. Betty Sue was also already a mother to Steven Carson and stepmother to Linton's daughter, Janice Barnett (Atlanta, GA). She and Linton raised their family on their own milk farm in Shelby on Charles Road where she continued to reside after Linton's passing in 1991.

Betty was also grandmother to seven grandchildren: Deitra, Latonya, Lauren, Leslie, Robbie, Buddy and Lindsay, whom she helped to raise and nurture. To know Betty Sue was to love her. She loved to laugh and have a good time. She loved crossword puzzles, reading and had the memory of an elephant. She also loved the Lord and was always happiest when spending time with her family.

Betty Sue passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at Atrium Health in her beloved Shelby, NC. Her legacy spans five generations including her great-grandchildren, Dorian, Penny, Grayce, Alexandria, Julia-Riley and great-great grandson Syair.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 12 noon, at Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Webb Memorial Lawns Cemetery. Enloe Mortuary was in charge of the services.
