Billy Jay McSwain, 82, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.

Bill was born on May 1, 1940 in Cleveland County, NC a son of the late Robert Hershel McSwain and Mary Sue Brittain McSwain. He was owner of McSwain Home Builders. Bill was a lifelong member of Plainsview Baptist Church in Lawndale where he served in many capacities over the years including serving as a deacon, Sunday School director and teacher, served on the Disaster Relief team, RA leader and choir member.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Childers McSwain and a daughter, Robin Smith.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Carpenter and husband Dwayne; a son, Doyle McSwain and wife Kelly; son-in-law, Tom Smith all of Shelby; three sisters, Linda Mosteller and husband Miller, Carolyn Noel and Patti Engle and husband Tom all of Lincolnton; two brothers, Sherrill McSwain and wife Peggy of Crouse and Hank McSwain and wife Donna of Lincolnton; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Plainsview Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Key officiating.

Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
