Billy Ray Stroupe, Sr., age 83 of Dallas Cherryville Hwy. passed away Monday, January 21, 2019 at Peak Resources. He was born October 25, 1935 in Gaston County to the late Aaron Hubert and Fama Mauney Stroupe. He was a licensed barber and retired from Carolina Freight. Bill was passionate about square-dancing, where he was a caller and instructor. He was also in the National Square Dancers Hall of Fame. He was a talented potter and a self-taught musician. He was formerly active in 4-H and Eagle Scouts and was a member of the Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M. Bill also enjoyed going to trade-lots and was an avid collector of anything and everything.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margaret Stroup Stroupe; children, Bill Stroupe Jr. (Angel), Boyce Stroupe (Cathy), Benita Kelbaugh (Taylor), Barbara Lawing (Chuck), Benjy Stroupe (Teresa); sister, Becky Gates (Darrell); grandchildren, Jessica (Keith), Ian, Issac, Trish (Mason), Holly (Ritchie), Hailey (Mack), Savannah, Sierra, Aaron (Jessie), and Shawn; and great grandchildren, Hunter, Wyatt, Maddie, MaKenzie, and Dylan; sisters-in-law, Mabel Young, Martha Stroup; brother-in-law, Randall Certain; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 4:00 PM at Concord United Methodist Church with Rev. Van Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
