Billy Wray Williamson

Mr. Billy Wray Williamson departed this life for his eternal home on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at his residence. He was born in Cleveland County, NC on June 27, 1948 to the late Flay Williamson and Annie Smith Williamson.

Wray attended Douglas High School and then completed his education at Cleveland Community College to become a certified welder. He worked at Shelby Steel Products for nearly 30 years before becoming the proud owner of his own business, Wray's Welding Service" for aother 25 years, where he was known as "The Wrought Iron Man of Cleveland County". His work was well known through out Cleveland County as a iron fabricator building piers, spiral steps, window and door bars, porch railing to trailers, aerators and grills. He talked of the biggest job he had at Gardner Webb College, tube railing inside their large gym. His welding was a labor of love not just a job. He was well liked by everyone and they were well pleased with his work.

As a member and deacon of New Life Christian Church, his love for the Lord was that of the highest. Knowing and believing that Jesus as His Savior had gone to prepare a place for him helped him throughout his illness. He was truly a prayer warrior and loved talking to the Master. His faith, believing that Jesus Christ is the son of God and has risen sealed his salvation. His song "When I've done the best I can" spoke the words in his heart to be accepted as a child of God. His words upon returning home were "I am the king of this castle, going to see the King soon."

His hobbies of love were hunting and fishing. His hunting buddies were Willie Burgess, Theordore Linton, Paul Ramseur, David Webber and James Thomas who stood by his side through his illness as hunting brothers who would always be there to help out however they could; brothers for life.

Wray loved his family. His daughters were the apples of his eye; his sons, highly favored; his grands and great-grands, his pride and joy and his wife, the love of his life. All other family were deeply loved. He was a man who was well loved by them and who others came to for advice.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Ray Williamson; a daughter, Mary "Libby" Woods; a sister, Mary Battle and brother-in-law, (Wilbert) and a grandson, Baby Petty.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 31 years, Dorothy Mock Williamson; his daughters, April Potlow (Lee), Tonya Petty (Joseph Roberson) and Doris Hopper (Rodney) all of Shelby, NC; his sons, Danny Williams of the home, James Williams (Benito) of Cary, NC and Jimmy Williamson of Charlotte, NC; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Delois Maddox (Jackie) of Iron Station, NC, Betty Mitchell (Benny) of Charlotte, NC; sisters-in-law, Evely Thomas Cook, Earnestine Autry both of High Point, NC, Barbara Goode, Rachel Mock, Mary Hudson all of Hampton, VA; brothers-in-law, Edward Richard (Cynthia) of High Point, NC and Vergus Mock of Greensboro, NC; uncle, George Smith (Roe) of Conover, NC; aunts, Sarah Lowe, Jessie Mason both of Lexington, NC and Christine Lattimore of Statesville, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
