Broad Riverkeeper to host Broad River Race June 1

Shelby, NC -- Join MountainTrue's Broad Riverkeeper for the first ever Broad River Race Day on June 1st. Folks are invited to enjoy these 5 miles on the most beautiful stretch of the Broad River during this race-at-your-own-pace event. The race was originally planned for April 14, but because of heavy rains was rescheduled to Saturday, June 1, 2019.
The Broad River Race has only two rules: 1. All participants must wear a lifejacket, 2. No motors allowed.
Participants will meet at the Lake Houser put in at 12:45 sharp to drop off boats. From there, they will take vehicles to the Broad River Greenway and get a shuttle back to the put in.
The race begins at 2:00 p.m.. The first person or team across the finish line wins a MountainTrue gift bag and takes possession of the hand-carved wooden race turtle until next year's race.
If you're not interested in racing, the Broad Riverkeeper is recruiting volunteers to help out at the start and finish lines.
