Buford Plato Summitt, 78, of Grover, NC, passed away on December 29, 2021 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Gastonia, NC.

He was born in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Thomas Everett Summitt. His aunt and uncle, Mary and Clem Summitt, who were instrumental in raising Buford also preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, W.C., L.G., and J.L. Summitt, Richard Whetstine, Bruce Green, and Wilhelmina Sprouse. Buford was a member of Penleys Chapel Church and worked in the textile industry most of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his canine companions and breeding German Shepard dogs. Buford loved fishing, watching wrestling and old westerns, but his passion was collecting knives and spending time with the people he loved most, his family. His love, compassion, and guidance will be missed greatly by everyone who knew Buford.

Daughters: Cherye Boling and husband Brian, Clover, SC, Tracy Turner and husband Reverend David Turner, Blackville, SC, and Leslie Smith (Jason Gipson), Grover, NC

Grandchildren: Andrew Turner (Kyra), Matthew Turner (Brittany Jenkins), and Amanda Smith (Zach)

Great Grandchildren: Kylie and Joey Turner, Addie Jenkins, Dean Turner, and Emma, Samuel, and Elliott Smith

FUNERAL SERVICE: Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Reverend David Turner officiating

VISITATION: Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM prior to the service in the parlor of Harris Funeral Home

INTERMENT: Wallace Grove Baptist Church Cemetery located at 2039 Adair Drive, Shelby, NC 28150
