Burns FFA Team 3rd In Nation
When the Burns FFA Quiz Bowl Team won the State Quiz Bowl Title in June, they had no idea what would happen next.

“We were just happy we won,” said Karen Walker, a team member. “We didn’t think we’d get to go to a national competition.”

But on September 15, the team received an invitation to compete at a national contest - a challenge they happily accepted. The following month, Burns traveled all the way to Indianapolis, IN, where they competed in the National FFA Invitational Quiz Contest. They were asked questions about FFA history, rituals, and customs. The team placed third. Madison Bridges, a team member, had the highest individual score in the nation. The contest was sponsored by Riverstar Farms, a Texas-based company that sells fundraising items.

Team members are Karen Walker, Madison Bridges, Amber Parker, and Steven Taylor. Their FFA Advisor is Luke Beam. Billy and Debbie Hoyle helped the team while on the trip. Carolina Farm Credit sponsored the team.

“I couldn’t be more proud of these students,” said Luke Beam, the Burns FFA Advisor. “They did their best and represented our school well. They’re great kids!”

But the trip didn’t end there. On Wednesday and Thursday, the team took part in the 83rd National FFA Convention, where they explored various agricultural career opportunities and developed their leadership abilities. They also ate at local restaurants and went sightseeing in Indiana’s capitol city.

The chapter received an award, too. At an exclusive banquet, the chapter was given a two out of three gold star rating for its balanced Program of Activities.

“Without FFA, I wouldn’t have gone to Indianapolis,” said Steven Taylor, “This organization has really motivated me, and has taught me to be more than an average student.”   Beam agrees. “FFA doesn’t just teach students about agriculture - it also prepares them for life.”

FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. For more information, visit ffa.org.
