Burns High Exceeds Goal In Blood Drive
Burns High students helped in collecting 122 units of blood.
Monday, February 28, 2011 was a magnificent day for Burns High School. Three Red Cross Bloodmobiles arrived at the school with a goal of 90 units of blood hoped to be donated. To the amazement of all involved there was a total of 122 units collected, which included 110 first time donors. Because each unit of blood collected is capable of saving three lives, Burns’ response could possibly affect 366 lives. The annual blood drive is coordinated by the health education teachers at Burns, Phyllis Elmore and Nicole Waters. For their spectacular effort, BHS qualifies as a “Recovery 2011 Sponsor” and will bring national recognition to the school. The school will be listed in a full page ad in USA TODAY - most likely next week. With such a critical blood shortage at the present time, the students and staff at Burns need to be congratulated for their caring response. You can help too by logging on to www.redcrossblood.org to find out where you can give. Remember, March is Red Cross month, please give today!
