Calvin Lee Owensby, Jr., age 44, of Tennessee Avenue, passed away Friday August 23, 2019 at home. He was born August 11, 1975 in Gaston County.

Calvin was a devoted husband, dedicated father, wonderful coach, and loyal friend. He was previously employed with Advanced Auto and the Gaston County Sheriff's Office. Calvin absolutely loved playing softball, and thoroughly enjoyed coaching Dixie Youth Baseball. He was a member of the Bessemer City Optimist Club where, in 2018, he served as their baseball commissioner. Calvin also coached travel ball. Anyone who knew Calvin knew that he was a "die-hard" Carolina fan, Atlanta Braves fan, and a Redskins fan. He also loved to listen to Garth Brooks. Calvin will truly be missed.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of more than 19 years, Leanne Wray Owensby; sons, Chad, Carter, Carson, and Corbin Owensby; father, Calvin Lee Owensby, Sr (Vickie Capps); mother, Tammy Hovis Welch (Tony); father-in-law, Willard Cantrell (Sylvia); mother-in-law, Lisa Berry (Greg); sister, Jennifer Pierson (Jim); niece, Mahkiya Pierson, and other numerous nieces and nephews.

To celebrate Calvin's life, his family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM Tuesday August 27, 2019 at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services, Cherryville.
