Carl F. Kennedy
Carl F. Kennedy, age 73, of Forest City, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at his residence.
Born August 3, 1943 in Rutherford County, he was a son to the late Buford Kennedy and Lola Gossett Kennedy. He received his Associates Degree from Isothermal Community College. Carl served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post #74. He worked in textiles for many years, having worked for Fieldcrest Mill and Mastercraft. Carl was a faithful member of the Harris First Baptist Church and enjoyed Duke Basketball, listening to gospel music and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Foy Holt.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty years, Mary Catherine Kennedy; daughter, Peggy Hunnicutt and husband, Darryl of Gastonia; three sons, Anthony Kennedy and wife, Pam of Bostic, John Carter and wife, Dean of Ellenboro and Robert Carter and wife, Stacy of Bostic; one sister, Peggy Mask and husband, Bill of Cliffside; three brothers, Kenneth Kennedy and wife, Edith of Atlanta, Georgia, Boyce Kennedy and wife, Janice and Donald Kennedy and wife, Peggy all of Rutherfordton. He is also survived by seven grandsons, Shane Upton, Hunter Kennedy, Colby Kennedy, Jason Hunnicutt, Phillip Foster, Charlie McLaughlin and Wayne Carter; two granddaughters, Brooke Moore, Shelby Carter and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at noon on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the Harris First Baptist Church with Reverend George Whitmire and Reverend Brian Melton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
