Carl Lee Withrow

Mr. Carl Lee Withrow, 76, of 1222 Webb Drive, Shelby, NC departed this life on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.  He was born on June 11, 1936 and was the eighth child born to the late Sherman and Amanda Houser Withrow.  He grew up in Cleveland County and graduated from Green Bethel School.

Carl married the former Bernice McGuire on July 12, 1975.  His occupation was cement finisher and he retired from this line of work after 32 years.  He was an active member of Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as President of Methodist Men and sang on the choir which he loved to do.  His hobbies were gardening, fishing and singing.  He was affectionately known as “NAP” and called himself “High Voltage”.

Carl Lee’s door was always open to welcome friends and family alike.  He had a quirky sense of humor and he was ready for a joke and was not shy about joking with you.  He had a special knack for dealing with kids especially his grandkids.  He was always called “Grandpa Carl Lee”.  Most of all, he enjoyed good food and plenty of it.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Withrow (Rossie), Van Withrow  (Henrietta), Zan Withrow, Glenn Withrow (Vernell) and Clarence Withrow (Bettye) and two sisters, Frances Withrow and Minnie Bell (Rufus).
