Carol Ann Pannell, age 76, of Ellenboro, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 29, 2025 at her home.
Carol was born Monday, February 21, 1949 in Mecklenburg County to the late Paul Atkinson and Ramoth Reynolds Atkinson. She worked for the North Carolina Department of Social Services for over twenty-five years as a case manager before retirement. Carol has been the main caregiver to her husband for the last several years. She lived out her Christian faith by serving others and putting their needs before her own. One of her greatest joys was being an active member of Race Path Baptist Church where she served on several committees and was a "pillar" of the church. She loved the outdoors, which included gardening. Carol also enjoyed playing softball in her younger years. She will always be remembered as a dedicated Christian, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Atkinson and sister, Janice Sharp.
Those left to honor her life include her husband of fifty plus years, Kenneth Pannell; sons, Jason Pannell of Ellenboro and Daniel Pannell of Greenville, SC; sister, Brenda Miller of Chesnee; brothers, Jerry Atkinson (Janet) of Chesnee and David Atkinson (Sydney) of Asheville and grandchildren, Raven Alexis Pannell and Nickolas Graham Pannell.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 5th at Race Path Baptist Church with Reverend Ray Hefner, Mr. Craig Ledford and Reverend Randall Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
