Carolyn Virginia Moore Lutz

Carolyn Virginia Moore Lutz passed peacefully at her home on November 12, 2022.

Born September 25, 1932, in Greenville, SC, to loving parents, the late Addie Brown Moore and Ernest Moore. Her family moved to Shelby a few years later which has been her home ever since. It is in Shelby where she met her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Ray Webb Lutz.

Upon graduating from Shelby High School in 1950 and attending Duke University, she returned to Shelby, worked in the insurance business, taught school and in 1956 married Ray Webb Lutz. Carolyn was known for her kind disposition, gentle ways and warm personality. She was a lifelong loving and faithful member of First Baptist Church, and also had much love and affection for Shelby Presbyterian Church, where her mother was a lifelong member. Carolyn routinely enjoyed attending services at both churches on Sunday. She was a proud member and supporter of various organizations including the Junior Charity League, book club, ladies bridge club and Cleveland Country Club. She served on the boards of the Lutz Foundation, the Neal Senior Center, Cleveland Community College and gave generously to these and many organizations and endeavors.

Carolyn was a loving wife and confidant to her husband of 40 years, Ray Webb Lutz. Their two daughters, Adelyn and Lee, and six grandchildren, were the joys of her life, and she offered unwavering support and encouragement to each one. Carolyn was well loved by all who knew her, and will be missed dearly. She is survived by her two daughters, Adelyn Parker of Shelby, NC and Lee Anderson of Atlanta, GA, and her six grandchildren, William (Julie) Parker of Ocean City, MD, Virginia (Drew) Papadopulos of Charlotte, NC, Ray Webb Parker of the home, Marshall Parker of Charlotte, NC, Sarah Anderson of Atlanta, GA, Addie Anderson of Atlanta, GA and great grandson Stephen Ray Parker, of Ocean City, MD, her loving Caregivers, Doris Kilgore and Margaret McCluney, both of Shelby, NC, and a special thanks to Hospice of Shelby.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 18, at 2pm at the Webb Chapel at First Baptist Church of Shelby, NC. Graveside services will follow at Sunset Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends prior to the service at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to First Baptist Church 120 N/ Lafayette St Shelby, NC 28150, Hospice Cleveland County: 951 Wendover Heights Dr. Shelby, NC 28150 or to an organization of your choice.
