Carroll Jennings Blanton, age 80 of Shelby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mildred McFarland Blanton of the home, a granddaughter, Lauren Brooks of Shelby, NC, a brother, Bill Blanton of Shelby, NC, a sister, Gail Laney of Shelby, NC, numerous nieces and nephews including Taylor Canipe, Matthew Morehead, and Joshua Morehead. Others that held a special place in Carroll's heart are good family friend, Chery Truluck and family, and organ recipients from Carroll's son, Mark Blanton (1963 - 2001); the late Tara Parker (heart recipient) and Paula King (liver recipient).

Born January 14, 1941, in Cleveland County, NC, Carroll was the son of the late William Albert Blanton and Elizabeth Bryant Blanton and was preceded in death by a son, Mark Steven Blanton, two brothers, Kenneth Blanton and Jim Blanton, and two sisters, Lavonda Powell and Faye Hager.

Carroll was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for more than 48 years. Carroll enjoyed football, NASCAR, and spending time with his family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 10, 2021, at Bethel Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Tim Sims. A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.

The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the staff at Wendover Hospice for the loving care they gave Carroll during his stay.
