Casar Elementary Schools’ Annual Fall Festival, Nov. 2
Gabe and Bruce Duncan
There is something to be said for living in a small community like Casar, especially at this time of year when it is quiet and homey feeling, and surrounded by some of the best scenery around. On the other hand, small communities are not widely known for a variety of entertainment opportunities either; so on Friday, November 2nd, Casar Elementary School’s Annual Fall Festival is looking to change that.
This Festival is open to the public and EVERYONE is invited. Whether you are the family with younger children always looking for the next adventure or the retired couple with a free evening and no plans, there is something for YOU! Beginning at 5:00 PM, Dairy Queen will be on-site serving not only those Blizzards you love, but supper, too. Plus, knowing that it is a good cause, and a percentage of all sales go directly back to the school, means that instead of feeling guilty, you can feel good about splurging on an extra dessert (or two).
For those families with children, the fun begins at 6:00 PM, with games galore. For only $3 each, armbands can be purchased for approximately an hour and a half of continuous play at a variety of gaming stations, including many of your favorite carnival-style games. We are also excited to announce that these same armbands also cover two new attractions for this year! There will be a blow-up bouncy house, which will be set up inside our roomy gymnasium in case of uncooperative or cooler weather. There will also be a new  “Fortune Teller” fun house, where you will be surprised and amazed as this mysterious, yet familiar, Fortune teller predicts your future…seeing many, many prizes! Yes, that’s right! All games will have prizes!
Entertainment opportunities for those attending without children at and around the 6 o’clock hour abound as well. One option would be the Cake walk, in which for less than the price of a snack cake from a convenience store, you can instead play to win a wonderful cake, made with love by some of the best bakers in our community! Will it be warm apple spice or rich red velvet, or possibly a fluffy layered coconut? You will just have to come and find out! Another option would be the Bingo game, and anybody can play Bingo! This will be an ongoing series of games, for $1 a game, where prizes range in value up to $25, including a variety of gift cards and certificates to suit anyone that may play!
Although the above mentioned attractions will wind down to end at 7:30, the night will be far from over as our annual Fall Auction will begin in the Gym. We are privileged to have around 100 items up for auction this year in a variety to suit the tastes of any man, woman, child or family that is willing to bid! One unique quality of this auction is that each grade works together to create a theme basket to present. This year’s themes are as follows: Kindergarten-Christmas, 1st-Cleaning Supplies, 2nd- Snacks, 3rd- Gardening, 4th-Family Movie night, 5th-Gardening, and the staff’s pick-Death by Chocolate!
Another unique quality is the sheer amount of local value that is presented in the Auction, as the majority of items have been donated from people you know, see or do business with on a daily basis! These include restaurants, hardware stores, clothing shops, florists, automotive and specialty shops. We also have a large variety of sports tickets up for grabs this year, including Gardner Webb Football, UNC Chapel Hill basketball, NC State football, and Appalachian football to name a few!
Not into sports, but looking for other means of entertainment? At our Auction, tickets for Tweetsie, Linville Caverns, The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, Riverbanks Zoo, NC Zoological Park, WNC Nature Center, Catawba Science Center, KidSenses, the Schiele Museum, and Bouncin’ Kids are all up for grabs, and that’s the short list! How about bowling, riding a zipline, hang gliding, spending a day in Old Salem, a riverboat dinner cruise on Lake Norman, or just a date night at the movies? You could get any of this and more in one night - at one place, with one hundred percent of the proceeds to benefit Casar Elementary.
So come on out on Friday, November 2nd to Casar Elementary School’s Fall Festival and keep in mind the predictions of our amazing fun-house ‘Fortune teller’…“I see many, many prizes!” - By Miranda Hyland
