Catherine P Fisher Spangler

GASTONIA: Catherine P Fisher Spangler, 94, died peacefully at Brookside Assisted Living in Gastonia. Catherine was a graduate of Shelby High School, attended Mitchell College in Statesville, and graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1945 where she was on the May Court and voted "prettiest" in the Senior Superlatives. After graduating from college she taught school in Kings Mountain and Shelby City Schools for 28 years. She was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church and later became a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Women's Circles and taught Sunday school in the children's departments, sang in the choir for a few years and was a member of the Session. Catherine loved reading, gardening and playing bridge which she participated in the same bridge club for over 50 years. In the years past, she volunteered at Cleveland Memorial Hospital's gift shop. She enjoyed walking her Yorkie "Fergie" Fergie often attended church meetings with her. The children in the neighborhood loved to pet the gentle little dog. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lena Payseur; sister, Theresa Hollar; and by her first husband, David Fisher, Sr. and second husband, James Edwin Spangler. She is survived by two children, David Fisher and wife Sherry of Sanford, NC and Mark Fisher and wife Julie of Belmont, NC; grandchildren Patrick Fisher, Alex Fisher, Will Fisher, Katy Launt, and Samantha Papsikos; 4 great grandchildren, Benton & Stella Fisher and Samuel and Finnley Launt.

A service to celebrate Catherine's life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday January 26, 2019 at John Knox Presbyterian Church Pastor Debbie Lesenger, Pastor Time Ware and Pastor Kitty Rankin officiating. A private family internment will be held at Cleveland Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to John Knox Presbyterian Church 610 Charles Rd, Shelby, NC 28152
