Cathy Yvonne Whitmire
Cathy Yvonne Whitmire, age 61, of Bostic, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Carolinas Medical Center-Cleveland in Shelby.
Born December 7, 1956 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late Reverend Charles Raymond McDaniel and Sarah Butler McDaniel. She was a graduate of East Rutherford High School, class of 1975 and also earned her dietary manager certification. She worked as a dietary manager for Rutherford Hospital for twenty-nine years and for Autumn Care of Forest City for several years. She faithfully served with her husband in the Lord's ministry for twenty seven years and was the epitome of a Pastor's wife. Cathy was the church organist, assistant pianist, a Sunday school teacher, VBS director, missions director, a member of the church choir and also of the Foothills Choir. She also sang for the New Grace Trio. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Cathy also enjoyed making flower arrangements and crafts. She was truly a "Proverbs Thirty-one Lady."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Dewitt Melton.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of forty-four years, Reverend George Whitmire; daughter, Gayla Hudson (Bobby) of Bostic; son, Greggory Whitmire (Kelly) of Rutherfordton; five sisters, Charlene Lee (Billy) of Ellenboro, Sandra Lane (Don) of Spindale, Denease Hollifield of Shelby, Janie Doty (Peyton) of Ellenboro, Pamela Upton of Bostic and mother-in-law, Jane Whitmire of Forest City. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Courtney McNeely (Samuel), Brittany Phouvanay (Bobby), Christian Hudson, Braden Hudson, Sawyer Whitmire and two great-grandchildren, Natalynn Phouvanay, Asher Phouvanay and a number of brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Harris First Baptist Church with Reverend Whitmire, Reverend David Blizzard and Reverend Matt Mills officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Harrelson Funeral Home.
