Charles "Charlie" James Brown

Charles "Charlie" James Brown, 82, of Boiling Springs, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Charlie will always be remembered for his unwavering dedication, compassion, and sense of humor.
Born on October 8, 1942, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Charlie was the cherished son of Kenneth and Naomi Brown. He was a standout baseball player, playing for the Thundering Herd at Marshall University. Charlie turned his passion for the game into a lifelong pursuit, coaching baseball in Shelby, North Carolina, for many years.

Charlie was a hardworking man who had built a thirty-year career with Shelby Supply Company, where he worked his way up from the bottom to become a part owner. He embodied integrity in every professional endeavor.

Married to Martha T. Brown for 61 beautiful years, Charlie's life was emboldened by his unwavering love and loyalty to his family. Alongside Martha, he raised their children, Stephanie B. Swansson and Scott C. Brown, imparting wisdom and joy at every step. Charlie's humor made him the cherished "jokester" of the family, bringing laughter to countless gatherings.

A man of many talents, Charlie spent time nurturing cattle on his farm, indulging in fishing, watching his grandchildren's sporting events, and nurturing his entrepreneurial spirit. His competitive nature never overshadowed his kind heart.

Charlie's dedication extended beyond his family and work. He was involved in his community through the Shelby Boys Club and served on the Town of Boiling Springs Planning and Zoning Board.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Martha T. Brown; daughter, Stephanie B. Swansson (Chris); son, Scott C. Brown (Crista); grandchildren, Morgan Alewine (Nathan), Aaron Hamrick (Abby), Clayton Brown, Kollin Byers, and Blake Rigdon (Karley); and great-grandson, Rhett Rigdon. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael Brown (Priscilla) and Thomas Brown (Beverly). He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Naomi Brown.

The family will hold a visitation at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory on June 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Atrium Cleveland & Pineville for their care and support. Rest in peace, dear Charlie, the world is brighter for having known you.
