Charles Edwin Holcomb, age 92, died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at White Oak Manor in Shelby. Born in Cleveland County on January 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Elijah and Oeland Wright Holcomb. Charles was a graduate from Shelby High School. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and in the United States Army during the Korean War. Charles was a master gardener, enjoyed bowling, and loved Carolina Basketball. In addition to his parents Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Ola Mae Rucker Holcomb; a brother, Albert Holcomb; and a daughter, Deborah Holcomb.

Charles is survived by two sons, Jeff Holcomb and wife Joyce of Shelby, and Stephen Holcomb of Charlotte; a brother, Neal Holcomb and wife Rachel of Shelby; a granddaughter, Karen Holcomb Beasley and fiancée, Jessie Yancey, of Shelby; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Sunset Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
