Chris Towery, age 59, of Providence Road, Forest City, NC, died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Autumn Care of Saluda.
Chris was born in Rutherford County, NC to the late James Fay Towery and Eloise Christy Towery. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the US Marine Corps. He worked as a general contractor and as a construction superintendent most of his life. He loved deer hunting, NASCAR, horseback riding, four wheeling, and was an avid Oakland Raiders fan. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Kathy R. Towery; one son, Robert “Dingo” Towery and wife, Tonya of Forest City; one daughter, Christy Coffey and husband, Timmy of Spartanburg County, SC; two brothers, John Wayne Towery and wife, Frances of Tanners Grove Community and Daniel Fay Towery and wife, Dianna of Mill Spring. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Robbie Coffey of Forest City; four grandchildren, Autum Towery, Levi Towery, Jerica Coffey, Lana Coffey and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Providence United Methodist Church with Reverend David Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Marine Corps League, PO Box 1293, Forest City, NC 28043.
The family also wishes to urge people to make themselves aware of the disease, Cerebellar Ataxia, and urges them to make donations to any individual with this disease in Chris’ memory.
