Christopher Lewis Hawkins, 50, of Shelby, NC passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 in Oak Island, NC.

Born in Okinawa, Japan on February 12, 1971, he was the son of Ron and Hilda Hawkins. He graduated from Crest High School and was employed by Nippon Electric Glass (PPG) for the past 10 years as a remote wet cut operator and backup fixer. Chris previously worked for G. T. McSwain's in Boiling Springs, Signal Point Systems and Azdel Inc. He was a member of Number 7 fire department for a number of years.

Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, W. S. and Evelyn Davis and Drew and Helen Hawkins; and his son, Michael Christopher Hawkins.

In addition to his parents, Chris is survived by his daughter, Amber Nicole Hawkins; his sister, Tina Hawkins Wesson and husband Joe; his nieces, Josie and Jenny Wesson; and nephews, Jacob, Luke and Jonah Wesson, all of Shelby.

Chris was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed working outdoors, mowing, driving the tractor and helping his Dad. Chris had a generous spirit. He was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his back or the last penny in his pocket. Chris was a wonderful son and father to Amber and Michael. He loved his family and died in an effort to save his son from drowning.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Double Springs Baptist Church with a visitation following the service.

It is requested that those in attendance wear face mask coverings and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Double Springs Baptist Church Choir, 1130 Double Springs Church Rd, Shelby NC 28150
