Cleveland Community College Trustee Receives Order Of The Long Leaf Pine
Chairman, Hoyt Bailey (right) presents Dr. Gene Yarboro the Long Leaf Pine award.
Cleveland Community College Board of Trustee, Dr. Gene Yarboro, was presented the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from North Carolina Governor, Beverly Perdue, during the recent CCC Board of Trustees meeting. Board Chairman, Hoyt Q. Bailey, presented Yarboro with the award as Yarboro’s wife, Margaret, and other family members surrounded him for the presentation.
Dr. Yarboro served the State of North Carolina for 60 years as a licensed Veterinarian.  For decades, he served hundreds of beef and dairy producers and just weeks ago concluded his practice of Veterinary Medicine for companion animals.  During his career he volunteered to mentor students interested in pursuing careers in veterinary science and served as a preceptor for students in veterinary programs. His interest in the local community allowed him to advance local public health through education, disease eradication, and prevention activities with his service on the Cleveland County Board of Health.
Dr. Yarboro’s interest in education and commitment to helping area citizens achieve their career, professional, and educational goals is exemplified by his 21 years of service as a member of the Board of Trustees of Cleveland Community College.
The certificate from Governor Beverly Perdue reads:
Reposing special confidence in the integrity, learning, and zeal of Dr. L. Gene Yarboro, I do by these presents confer The Order of the Long Leaf Pine with the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary privileged to enjoy fully all rights granted to member of this exalted order, among which is the special privilege to propose the following North Carolina Toast in select company anywhere in the free world:
Here’s to the land of the long leaf pine,
The summer land where the sun doth shine,
Where the weak grow strong and the strong grow great,
Here’s to “down home,” the Old North State!
