Cleveland County Fairgrounds Hosts Shelby Amateur Radio Club's 24 Hour Field Day
Member Bobby Hamrick in communication at Shelby’s digital station.
The Shelby Amateur Radio Club participated in the annual ARRL (American Radio Relay League) field day that took place this past Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27. That is when the club spends 24 hours (2 p.m. to 2 p.m.) practicing their skills and powering their equipment on emergency generators. During the 24 hour period they try to contact and log as many other clubs in the United States and Canada as possible. The exercise is to help communication coordination. Recent national events have displayed the importance of these clubs and how valuable their purpose is to our communities. This year, the Shelby Club was invited to conduct the field day at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. The Shelby Amateur Radio Club was founded in 1957.
