Cleveland County Health Department... Rabies Vaccination & Operation Medicine Drop
Wanda Whitworth, Brandon Poteat, Bobbie Dell and Judy Justice line up with their pets for a free rabies shot. Volunteer Jennifer Hord (with clipboard) fills out the paperwork prior to the dogs getting their shots.
The drive through event for free rabies vaccination coupled with “Operation Medicine Drop” on Saturday, January 5th turned out to be another success. A clinic will also be held on Saturday, January 12th at Tractor Supply along with a Animal Adoption Day from 10 am to 2 p.m. and on Saturday, March 16th at Crest High School from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Cleveland County Animal Control continues to work to stop the spread of rabies. The free rabies shots were given to dogs and cats. Other information on animals regarding feeding and proper care was passed out to all participants. It included prevention of animal cruelty.
In order to help with the prevention of medication abuse, Operation Medicine Drop allowed anyone to bring expired or unused medication for proper disposal. The medicine drop was very simple. All you had to do was drive in, drop off and drive away, no questions asked. The drugs were logged in and will be sent to Charlotte for proper disposal.
The combined community effort at the Health Department parking lot will be repeated again in March. - M.A. Andrews
