Cleveland County Library Gallery Features Local Artist Exhibit
The Cleveland County Library Gallery will feature a retrospective exhibit of local artist Betty Mace April 3 through May 30.  A meet the artist reception will be held in May.
Betty Mace, known to many as ‘Betty Jo’, owned and operated Betty Jo’s Florist in Shelby until her retirement in 1985.  Betty began taking classes with Hal Bryant at Cleveland Community College just a few years before her retirement, prior to which she says, “I couldn’t draw a stick figure.”  Her first drawing class let to classes in watercolor, acrylic and pastel. The work exhibited in the Library Gallery is a retrospective of her work in all these media.
Failing vision, due to macular degeneration, has forced Betty to abandon her painting, but not her love of art.  She is now engaged in many activities at her church.  She encourages anyone who has a hobby, whatever it might be “to enjoy and practice it as long as you are able.”  Be sure to spend a few minutes in the Gallery when you visit the Library to enjoy Betty’s work.
