Cleveland County Middle School Basketball Jamboree
Shelby - Burns game.
On Saturday, January 5th, the Cleveland County Middle School Basketball Jamboree was held. The boys event was hosted at Crest High School and the girls competition took place at the Shelby Middle School gym. The two girl’s games provided some interesting competition. In the first game, Crest overpowered Kings Mountain with a lopsided 44-20 victory. In the second game, a tight scoring contest began in the third quarter. Burns was constantly ahead, if only by a few points. Felicity Hamilton changed the direction of the game when she scored to give Shelby a one point edge, 19-18. Playing on their home court, the Shelby Blue Devil ladies were looking good until Ariana Huskey sank a three-pointer to put Burns back in the lead with just 1:02 left in the game. With just 35.3 seconds left, Burns was ahead by one point, 26-25. A personal foul brought Massih Brown to the line for Burns who sank one of two shots making the score 27-25. With just 18.3 seconds left in the game, Shelby was unable to sink a tie making shot giving Burns the victory.
