A Kings Mountain pastor has received a very prestigious award from none other than the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden.

On Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, Dr. Robert W. Eng, III was presented the award at his church, New Life Family Worship Center, which is located at 428 Oak Grove Rd., Kings Mountain, N.C. The award was presented to Dr. Eng by Dr. Kenneth Curry, who has himself in the past been the recipient of this same award. In addition to Dr. Curry, also on stage with Dr. Robert and First Lady Susan Eng, was Dr. Moses Nueman, Bishop to the continent of Africa and President of World Care Ministry International.

As stated on the letter from the White House to Dr. Eng, the award was presented to him "...in recognition of your 6,500 hours of service to this great Nation." It is further noted in the letter that, by his sharing of his time and passion, Dr. Eng was "...helping discover and deliver solutions to the challenges we face - solutions that we need now more than ever...Through your service, you are providing all three."

The letter, signed by President Joe Biden, concludes with the following statement: "On behalf of the American people, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to you for your volunteer leadership, and I encourage you to answer the call to serve. The country is counting on you."

Dr. Eng, 66, is a 1974 graduate of Kings Mountain High School. He played a number of sports while there, lettered in them, and sang in the school choir. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army, moving through the ranks and various military training programs, including Ranger School and Special Forces training, becoming a drill sergeant in 1979. He was honorably discharged in 1989; came home and married the love of his life and help-meet in church work and ministry, Susan A. Eng on Feb. 20, 1982. Mrs. Eng is a registered nurse and co-pastor's their church, New Life Family Worship Center of Kings Mountain, with her husband. Their daughter, Heather Sherrill, is the Children's Pastor at the church.

Dr. Eng graduated from Cleveland Community College with two AAS degrees in 1983, received his BA/Religious Arts in Biblical Studies in 1995; a Masters/Religious Arts in Christian Psychology in 1996; and three doctoral degrees over the course of three years (1997-2000).

Additionally, Dr. Eng is the recipient of numerous other awards and honors from former President George Bush (1992) to a Paul Harris Fellow (2000), all leading up to this most recent honor from President Biden. He is a life-long practitioner and teacher of martial arts and has founded a school for such.

He has been the minister/senior pastor at his church since 1998 and has helped in the planting of churches across the state, the nation, and in Africa. Dr. Eng is a prolific author who has written 12 books. He is generous when it comes to giving of his time as is evidenced by the 6,500 hours of volunteer, non-paid service he has given to his own and various communities.
