Cline Borders Hamrick,

Cline Borders Hamrick, 80, of Boiling Springs died peacefully at home on March 26, 2022 after a long, heroic, and stubborn fight against a rare brain disease. (Inflammatory Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy)

Born August 3, 1941, in Cherokee County, SC, he was the son of the late Charles James Hamrick and Bernice Elizabeth Borders Hamrick. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Marshall Hamrick.

He graduated from Gardner-Webb Junior College in 1961 and from NC State University in 1964 with a degree in Dairy Science. He worked for the NC Dairy Herd Improvement Association of Raleigh (NCDHIA) until 1970, when he married and returned home to farm.

From 1970-1986, he and his wife Kathryn and their 4 sons operated a family dairy farm in Boiling Springs. Kathryn wrote a newspaper column titled "The Farmer's Wife" for 30 years for local papers, with Cline featured often in her humorous columns. Locally, many people knew him as "The Farmer." After getting out of farming, he operated Hamrick Carriage Service for over 20 years, providing Christmas carriage rides for Shelby and Forest City and providing carriage services for parades, weddings, and festive events.

He served on the Town Council of Boiling Springs in the 1990s, served as a Deacon of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, and over the years was a member of various agricultural boards. An avid quail hunter, he was a member of Quail Forever. A beloved resident of Boiling Springs, he was known as one who always had a smile and always left people with a smile.

Cline is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathryn Hocutt Hamrick; their four sons: Jason (Amy), Leif (Christina), Spencer (Erika), and Miles; and 11 grandchildren: Morgan, Aaron, Levi, Isaac, Austin, Trevor, Megan, Leighton, Colson, and Price Hamrick and Logan Calvert.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 30, outdoors at the picnic shelter of the Boiling Springs Baptist Church, Boiling Springs, NC, officiated by the Revs. Bonnie Doughtie, Buddy Corbin, and Carroll Page. Lawn chairs welcomed. Interment of the ashes will take place at 10:00 am, an hour prior to the memorial service, at the Boiling Springs Cemetery on South Main Street.
