Communities In Schools “Backpack Program” Receives A Helping Hand From Local Companies
Tanesha Strong, Will Ausborn and Nicole Camp.
Local companies partnered with Communities In Schools of Cleveland County and Cleveland County Schools to provide backpacks filled with school supplies for students in Cleveland County.  Cleveland County Manufacturers: Clearwater Paper, PPG Industries and Hanwha together donated 825 filled backpacks for students from kindergarten to 12th grade.  In addition to these three local manufacturers, the project was supported by Applied Ind. Technologies, Asheville Rubber and Gasket, Atlantic Packaging, Barnes, Citgo Petroleum Corp., Duke Energy, Erik Liliensteins, H&W, Hagan Kennington, Lewis Goetz, Midwest Ind. Rubber, Rexel, Shannon Nickles, Total Filtration Systems, Wesco, LeGrand Center and Mabry Office Equipment.  The supplies varied depending on the age of the student.  Employees of these companies also contributed school supplies to the cause and they packed the backpacks to get them ready for delivery.
Representatives from area Cleveland County Schools and area participating companies were present at the LeGrand Center to present the backpacks to Communities In Schools staff and Board of Directors on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. The backpacks were distributed at the schools on the 21st and 22nd.
