Community partners to bring NC MedAssist's Free Mobile Pharmacy to Shelby

NC MedAssist will hold a Mobile Free Pharmacy Event in Shelby on Friday, October 26. The event, which is in collaboration with Atrium Health, is open to any individual or family needing free over-the-counter medications. The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church (914 Frederick Street, Shelby, NC 28150). Identification is not required to participate.
"Atrium Heath is proud to partner with NC MedAssist to bring the Mobile Free Pharmacy event to Shelby," said Carolinas HealthCare System Cleveland President Brian Gwyn. "The event is expected to have a huge impact on the community. Our mission at Atrium Health is to bring health, hope, and healing to all and what better way than to partner with NC MedAssist to do so. We know that even with insurance, many individuals cannot afford OTC medication."
Individuals will receive up to 10 FREE medicine cabinet items for their family/home. Additionally, participants will receive information on NC MedAssist's Free Pharmacy Program. NC MedAssist's overall goal is to help ease the burden for those who are making the choice between buying food or purchasing medication.
"NC MedAssist is excited to again work with Atrium Health to bring the Mobile Free Pharmacy event back to Cleveland County," stated CEO Lori Giang. "This is our second event this year. Last time we served close to 600 people. Through our collaboration with Atrium Health we will be able to reach more individuals and educate them on our free resources. No one should go without medicine and this program is enabling us to reach those who are unaware of our free medications."
There are currently more than 6,000 people in Cleveland County that live below the Federal Poverty Level and do not qualify for insurance. Last fiscal year, NC MedAssist dispensed over $48 million in free prescription medication statewide. For more information on the Mobile Free Pharmacy and NC MedAssist, please visit www.medassist.org.
