Congratulations to Dot Bowen!
Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin and SHIIP, the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program, would like to recognize SHIIP Volunteer Dot Bowen with the Council on Aging/Senior Center for outstanding service to Medicare beneficiaries in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Dot Bowen received the Western Region Volunteer of the Year Award.  Dot has been a SHIIP volunteer for over 20 years.  Last year she counseled over a fourth of all clients receiving help in Cleveland County.
A division of the North Carolina Department of Insurance, SHIIP provides free and unbiased information about Medicare, Medicare prescription drug coverage, Medicare Advantage, long-term care insurance and other health insurance issues to Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. While SHIIP employs a small paid staff, a great deal of its outreach is performed through trained volunteers who provide one-on-one counseling in all 100 counties in North Carolina.
“Serving North Carolina’s 1.5 million Medicare beneficiaries would be impossible without the work of our SHIIP volunteers,” said Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin. “I thank each and every one of them for their dedication and compassion in helping people make important decisions about Medicare.”
