County Extension Center Welcomes New Staff Member
The Cleveland County Extension Center is pleased to welcome Julie Flowers to its staff.  Formerly a horticulture program assistant with the Gaston County Extension Center, Julie will now serve as an area consumer horticulture agent for Cleveland and Gaston Counties.
In addition to providing home gardeners with educational programs and technical assistance, Julie will coordinate the Extension Master Gardener Program, which provides intensive certification training related to best cultural practices for lawns, fruits, vegetables, trees, and ornamentals.  She will organize Cleveland County’s first class of Master Gardener Volunteers this fall.  Julie will also provide pesticide re-certification training for commercial lawn care professionals, help coordinate community gardens, and implement Harvesting Healthy Youth, a school-based gardening and nutrition program.
The public is cordially invited to meet Julie at a “Spring Planting Day” to be held at Carillon Assisted Living, 1550 Charles Road in Shelby, on Thursday, April 26 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.  She will be discussing soil sampling, vegetable planting, and answering any gardening questions you might have.
You can learn more about the Extension Master Gardener Program and register for the fall session by calling the County Extension Center at (704) 482-4365.
Julie has worked in the commercial landscape and nursery industry.  She holds an Associate’s Degree in Horticulture and Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education.
