David Dear is Grand Marshal of Uptown Shelby Christmas Parade

 The Uptown Shelby Association has named Mr. David Dear as Grand Marshall for the annual Christmas Parade. Having served as County Manager for Cleveland County since December 2004, Mr. Dear announced his retirement plans in early fall of this year.
“David Dear has been at the center of improving infrastructure in Cleveland County and to pull diverse stakeholders into a positive working relationship to rebuild the economic life of this community,.” said Uptown Shelby Association’s Executive Director Wade Nichols. “Each year we look to honor a person who has made real contributions to Shelby and Cleveland County, and we are pleased to honor Mr. Dear as he retires,”
David Dear has been employed by Cleveland County for 34 years, having previously served in other managerial jobs. He is a graduate of UNC-Charlotte, as well as Burns High School. Mr. Dear lives with his family in Shelby.
The 2011 Shelby Christmas Parade will be held on Sunday, December 18th at 3 p.m. on Lafayette Street. The parade has traditionally featured appearances by elected officials and beauty queens, as well as sporting teams of all ages, civic groups, marching bands, church groups, antique cars, Shriner’s funny cars, and all sorts of glittering floats.
Uptown Shelby Assoc-iation is a non-profit organization charged with guiding the development and revitalization of the Uptown commercial district in Shelby. Founded in 1980 as one of thirty Main Street communities under a national pilot project of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Uptown Shelby Association was incorporated in 1982. Since that time the organization has been part of several community development projects, assisted local property owners and business with technical services and grants, and promoted the Uptown area through events and merchant programs.
