David Franklin Hinson

David Franklin Hinson, 84, went to join his Heavenly Father Monday, September 3, 2018 at Hospice - Wendover. He was born December 29, 1933 in Iredell County to the late David Lawton Hinson and Jeanette Overcash Hinson. David graduated from Troutman High School in Troutman, North Carolina. He attended NC State College and Mitchell College, Statesville, North Carolina. He met his wife, Christine Plyler, at Mitchell College and they would have been married for 65 years on September 12th. He was a veteran serving 2 years in the Army and 8 years in the Air Force Reserve. David was School Bus Transportation Director for Cleveland County, Shelby City and Kings Mountain City Schools for 30 years retiring in 1993. David was a member of Boyce Memorial ARP Church in Kings Mountain where he served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday school teacher, and Trustee. He also organized one-day trips for the Adult Fellowship for a number of years. He was an Oasis Shriner and Past Master of Shelby Masonic Lodge #744. David was past President of the following: Shelby Jaycees, Charter President of the Shelby Exchange Club, and Piedmont Shrine Club. He was a charter member of the Oasis Piedmont Pistons and a Master Kansas City Barbeque judge. David was a member of the committee to Portland, Oregon, when Shelby was named an "All American City". David was an Atlanta Braves fan, win or lose. He enjoyed spending time at Cherry Grove beach and traveling with tour groups especially to museums and historical sites.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Velma.

David is survived by his loving wife, Christine; a daughter, Annette McCarter and husband Bill, of Shelby; two grandsons, Matthew McCarter and wife Julie of Belmont, Mason McCarter of Shelby; a brother and sister-in-law, Homer and Barbara Hinson of Troutman; and two nephews and their families, Rodney Hinson of Simpsonville, SC and Jeff Hinson of Troutman.

The family would like to thank Nancy Burch of Helping Hands, for her care and support of David. They would also like to thank Life Enrichment Center and their staff for the kindness shown to David while he attended there.

Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Chapel of Cecil Burton Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Patrick officiating. The family will receive friends after the memorial service.
