David Richard Williams

David Richard Williams passed away peacefully at his home on February 16, 2025, at the age of 84.

Born on September 15, 1940, in Cleveland County, he lived a life marked by enthusiasm, and enduring dedication to his loved ones and community.

David was the heart of his cherished family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond David Williams and Gustee Richard Williams; his loving wife of sixty-six years, Barbara Wortman Williams; his brother, Eddie Williams; and two sisters, Susan Lavender and Martha Williams. His legacy lives on through his son, Mike Williams and wife Pam of Shelby; his daughters, Debbie Eaker and husband Gary of Shelby, and Tammy Newton and husband Joel of Casar. His eight grandchildren, Brooke Emory and husband Josh, Kyle Harmon, Sarah Piercy and husband Cliff, Michael Williams and wife Lauren, Elliott Newton and wife Tonya, Carrie Timms and husband Josh, Katie King and husband Corbin, and Grayson Eaker, alongside his twelve great-grandchildren, Zella, Owen, Noah, David, Kate, Cash, Elli, Austin, Aaliyah, Kylie, Josie, and Sophie.

Before retiring, David dedicated his professional life to the community through his work at Shelby Sporting Goods and as the manager of Community Mart #3. His passion for service and fellowship was evident through his devout membership at Casar United Methodist Church, where he was involved with the Methodist Youth Fellowship. In addition, his commitment to the brotherhood of Casar Masonic Lodge was unwavering, having served as a past master and Shriner.

David was a man of many interests, most notably his love for sports. He was an avid sports fan and relished watching his children and grandchildren's sporting activities, celebrating their victories and achievements with pride and joy. His artistic spirit was expressed through music, gracing many with his voice in the Casar Community choir and keeping rhythms alive as a drummer in various bands. His prowess in performing arts also shone brightly as he contributed to the joy of church events and the Casar Community Theater.

Beyond his artistic and familial contributions, David was known in his community for his creative spirit, personified through his talking pumpkin at Halloween and his much-anticipated appearance as Santa Claus in the Casar Christmas Parade. His generosity and impact on the town were recognized when he was honored as the Casar Citizen of the year, a testament to the deep love and respect the community held for him.

His was a life well-lived, filled with the melodies of music, the laughter of children, and an unwavering commitment to generosity and service.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with officiating Rev. Van Spencer officiating.

Burial will follow in Casar United Methodist Church Cemetery.
